![]() ![]() If you are intending on connecting your drums to Ableton, and want a realistic\lifelike performance, EZD3 (or any other nice VST) will be superior to Ableton's built-in sounds and or racks. In Ableton, you get closed and open sounds, but not a full spectrum of closed to open. EZD3 also handles hi-hat articulation the way an acoustic drummer would expect. Also, a lot of really nice room ambience is built-in (totally mixable). Each instrument in EZD3 is comprised of many samples, each of which will trigger depending on velocity and other performance factors. ![]() The Ableton sounds are generally a one-shot that can be triggered at different volumes, so you don't get a lifelike performance when you are triggering them. There's also drag-and-drop support for individual or third-party samples. Over 230GB of raw sounds were captured at Galaxy Studios by the legendary George Massenburg. There are some nice acoustic drum sounds in the Ableton package, but they don't include the level of articulation included in EZD3. Superior Drummer 3 yields endless choices for honing, shaping, and molding drums. The EZD3 sounds are far superior in terms of recreating your performance with lifelike sounds.
